Elections 2009
At the close of the semester, the brothers held their first election. Many brothers with interesting and fresh ideas for the future of the colony ran for the different Executive positions. After many hours of debate, review, and contemplation, a new Executive Board was elected and the previously appointed Executives began the process of transitioning. This was a landmark event for the colony as the new officers represented the collective voice of the colony and not the judgment of Chapter Consultants. The colony, thankful for the service of their first officers, continues to consult them and utilize them as resources.
Delta Tau Delta Partners for Greek Sing 2010
The Delts were approached by Delta Delta Delta sorority. The women of Delta Delta Delta asked the Delts if they would be interested in participating in Greek Sing with them in the following semester as a partner for the competitive doubles portion of the show. After long discussion, the men of the colony decided that although the time commitment involved with participating in the doubles portion would be great, increased involvement with other Greek groups on campus and a chance to work with the skilled women of Delta Delta Delta on philanthropy events together were worth the investment.
Recruitment Fall 2009
The brothers of the Delta Beta Crescent Colony are proud to announce that they have recruited twelve new members during the IFC recruitment period. These twelve pledges come from five of Carnegie Mellon's colleges. This pledge class is our most diverse yet with pledges majoring in Drama, Architecture, Computer Science, and Business Administration among others. Thanks to the efforts of the Recruitment and Growth Committee, the Colony continues to grow and the brothers look forward to the onset of year-round recruitment.
Delta Beta Acquires a Buggy
In a deal brokered by President Amandeep Chawla on behalf of the brotherhood, Delta Beta Crescent Colony acquired a buggy from the student organization Pioneers. The brothers, having decided that Quicksilver needed a new name, are currently debating between Bethany, Trixie, and a few other suggestions. Brother Ojas Mainkar and Pledge Ian McIntyre have volunteered to work as Buggy Chairs and morale is high as Delta Beta, having rejoined the worlds of Greek Sing and Carnival Booth earlier this spring, works to rejoin the world of Sweepstakes.
Recovery of Delt Awards
After the Delta Beta Crescent Colony received its new housing and the Delt Shelter at Carnegie Mellon had been officially opened, members of the alumni House Corporation informed the brothers that there were some odds and ends that had been saved and stored prior to Delta Beta's loss of charter in 2004. New Member Educator Benjamin Lee and Guide Joenuel Ortiz journeyed to the storage unit expecting to find a few trophies and composites in a box. Instead, they found over forty trophies and plaques, Delt composites dating back to the 1950s, bound copies of The Rainbow dating back to the 1930s, and a plethora of other treasures including a copy of the Carnegie Mellon Thistle from 1922 and a signed photo of Justices Tom Clark and William Brennan. The two brought everything that could fit in a car back to the shelter. Currently, brothers have begun restoration efforts to bring the trophies and plaques back to their original shine.
