Matthew James Scott Scholarship
Brothers Jeremy Tuttle and Nathaniel Foster recieved the Matthew James Scott Scholarship at the 2009 Greek Awards. The scholarship was created in memory of Brother Scott who passed away in a tragic accident. His family created the scholarship to honor new members of Delta Tau Delta who exemplify the qualities of the Delt - qualities that Matthew exemplified during his life. The scholarship was presented to Brothers Tuttle and Foster by Brother Frollini or, as the Delta Betas have come to call him, Uncle Nick. Frollini, Delta Beta's Alumni Mentor, was close to Brother Scott during his time at Carnegie Mellon and the chance to present two young Delts with the award in his memory proved quieting. At the table with the undergraduate Delts, Uncle Nick, after pausing a moment, smiled and said to the winners, "Just come here and shake my hand."
Booth: The Game of Life
The brothers of Delta Tau Delta made their return to booth during Spring Carnival 2009: Epic Adventures with their booth "The Game of Life." The booth was the first of its kind: a joint booth between a fraternity and a sorority. Working with the women of Alpha Chi Omega, the CMU Delts built a booth to compete in the independent competitive category. The first person to step through the booth was President Jared Cohon himself. The game that year consisted of a spinner which lead you down your "Journey of Life." Spin a pink and your life met misfortune. Spin a green and your life had a turn for the better. Jared Cohon spun several pinks and, upon spining his third pink, was informed by Brother Matthew Biegler that his "house just burned down." President Cohon, ever the good sport, chuckled and congratulated the Delts on a good showing.

Greek Sing: Delts in Tights
For Greek Sing 2009, the brothers of the still fledgling Delta Beta Crescent Colony stormed back to the stage of Soldiers and Sailors with their interpretation of the great Mel Brooks comedy, "Robin Hood: Men in Tights." The freshman organization put in a valiant effort filled with four-hand piano parts arranged by Brother Bin Yang, back-flip-ridden choreography by President Amandeep Chawla, and purposefully ridiculous acting by a cast of Delts in green tights. Despite having then Pledge Joshua Patent literally sweep them off the stage with a broom for going over time, the Delts managed to win themselves Second Place in the Singles category.

Division Conference
The brothers of Delta Tau Delta set out for Delta Beta's first Eastern Division Conference in years. Despite a raging storm with white-out conditions, the Delts drove from their home of Pittsburgh to State College, PA to meet the rest of the Delts from the Division. The hours-long journey was made more difficult by the icy, snowy roads which, at times, were impossible to see. The Delts ended up leading a small convoy of cars all driving down the same country road - sticking to each other to try and keep from getting lost in the storm.
Once they arrived at Penn State, the Delts prepared for their various training and educational sessions. Two of the Delts attended a session on dynamic recruitment and left eager to bring the ideas and skills back to Delta Beta Crescent Colony. Colony Advisor Maximilian Schuster lead a course on Member Education and Brother Stainthorp introduced the National Education Program: The Road. Delta Beta Delts attended both sessions to gain more insight into keeping life-long learning a part of the CMU Delt experience.
While at the Division Conference, the Delta Beta Delts got a chance to meet, among other notable Delts, Executive Vice President James Russell who, after chatting with the Delts over lunch, informed them, "It's good to have you back."

Recruitment Spring 2009
The brothers of the Delta Beta Crescent Colony are proud to announce that they have recruited two new members during the IFC recruitment period. This recruitment period - the colony's first - proved a great learning experience. In addition to teaching brothers how best to bring people into recruitment events, the period allowed brothers to receive feedback from the pledges as to which events worked and which didn't. Thanks to the efforts of the Recruitment and Growth Committee, the Colony continues to grow and the brothers look forward to their first attempt at year-round recruitment.
